The Best Costume Design Oscar nominees for 2013 are Jacqueline Durran for Anna Karenina, Paco Delgado for Les Misérables, Joanna Johnston for Lincoln, Eiko Ishioka for Mirror Mirror, and Colleen Atwood for Snow White and the Huntsman.
Hmm. I love what I've seen of the costumes for Anna Karenina so far, though I've yet to see the movie (I think poor Nick is getting a bit burned out on costume dramas), and Snow White and the Huntsman was freakishly gorgeous. (But then again I love Colleen Atwood in general and was shocked A Series of Unfortunate Events didn't win its year.)
But Eiko Ishioka was a genius, died last year, and her costumes were pretty much the only reason to see Mirror Mirror.*
And swan hat. Seriously, we can't forget the swan hat. (+4 points to Mirror Mirror.)
I don't know, I can't call it this year. What do you think?
*In fairness to both Snow White movies, I also thought the only reason to watch Snow White and the Huntsman besides costumes is Charlize Theron. Seriously, scroll up and look at that again. Swoon.
